First Lady Michelle Obama on Iron Chef America

Today’s big food story was First Lady Michelle Obama inviting Food Network Iron Chef America chefs Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batale to compete against Bobby Flay and White House chef Cristeta Comerford using the entire contents of the White House garden. The First Lady was there to encourage all of the chefs to create dishes that enforced the use of local produce and sustainable food.

Here in Oxford, we’re fortunate to have local produce and sustainable food available to us in abundance at Farmer’s Markets and privately owned meat/seafood markets. And, a good portion of residents take advantage of this small-town perk. Many Oxford-based restaurants serve locally grown produce as well as fish that was caught locally, helping to boost our local economy and cut down on food that needs to be trucked in.
