Toys for Oxford Kids This Christmas

4 Dec

Let me preface this post by saying that it has absolutely nothing to do with food, but I think you’ll forgive me when I tell you that it’s about making sure that the children of Oxford all have toys to open this Christmas.

Gather your friends, school groups and coworkers together. If you’re planning a Secret Santa swap this holiday season, consider foregoing it to bring some holiday smiles to the faces of Oxford children. You still remember the toys you received for Christmas when you were a kid, don’t you?

For 35 years The Christmas Store, a joint venture between the Rotary Club of Oxford-Ole Miss and Interfaith Compassion Ministry (ICM), has been providing toys for eligible children who may otherwise not receive gifts for the holidays.

Last Christmas, nearly 700 children received gifts. This year, ICM has accepted applications for 305 families (537 children) and the goal is to provide each eligible child with a toy and a new book totaling $30.

Tax-deductible donations are being accepted and can be dropped off at 904 N. Lamar Blvd. A new, unwrapped toy or book for a boy or girl, a retail gift card or a donation of $30 may be donated. Donations are also being accepted online at the Rotary Club website or can be mailed to The Christmas Store, P.O. BOX 1686, Oxford, MS 38655.

According to The Oxford Eagle a little under $8,000 has been received so far, but estimated costs are more than $21,000, meaning they are nowhere close to meeting their goal, and the entire project depends on donations from the Oxford community. The Christmas Store takes place on Saturday, December 11, so don’t hesitate.

The Christmas store will be providing toys for way over 700 children this year, with additional requests coming in every day! To hear from parents who just want their children to have SOMETHING to open on Christmas is heartbreaking! Please, please make a donation to ensure no child goes without!

Thank you for recognizing this project. Preparations are well under way to provide gifts to what is currently over 760 children from Oxford and Lafayette County. Any and all help is appreciated!
