Tacky Restaurant Hitting Oxford This April

28 Jan

Tacky Shack, a new restaurant concept that recently opened in Grenada, Mississippi, is on track to open a second location at 1518 Jackson Avenue West this coming April.

Chef owner Clint Boutwell says that he attended junior high and half of high school in Oxford and he’s prepared to bring some good food with him when he returns this spring to run Tacky Shack.

A chef for the past six years, Clint wanted to open a more funky-style restaurant, so he travels to Florida and picks up objects of a “tacky” persuasion for Tacky Shack’s decor and says that the restaurant’s style is “beach tacky” with bright colors, surfboards, and a VW Beetle with a flat screen TV in the windshield for the kids.

According to Clint, the menu will consist of custom-made burgers on sweet sourdough buns with topping selections such as fried egg; bacon; peanut butter and jelly; and grilled beer onions. Also available will be cooked-to-order, fresh-battered Tyson chicken tenders; smoked pulled-pork BBQ sandwiches served on Texas toast; and a variety of sides including curly fries, cole slaw, sweet potato waffle fries, onion strings and potato salad.

Beer will be available to wash it all down.

Had such a bad experience when I took my daughter and a few of her friends there the other night to celebrate her 8th birthday. I asked the owner if he could have some employees sing happy birthday or if they had any plates to put cake on and he said no. Rude! On top of that I was charged extra for more BBQ sauce (after already spending an obnoxious amount on the food for the kids) and 35 cents for water. Tacky Shack is one Oxford restaurant that left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be eating there in the future.

You want to eat, go to a restaurant. You want somebody to sing to you, go to a concert.

On the whole, that might be true, but this is a place that prides itself on being kid-friendly. She wasn’t asking for a special order or anything.

Although charging for tap water is a bit, well, tacky, I’m going to give the place a running start before trying it. Any new place needs some “settling in” time. Even if this is an established place in Grenada, the staff here is all going to be local, and they need time to figure out what’s what. That said, the menu sounds awfully heavy, so I hope they have some healthy options.

My wife and I tried the Tacky Shak last night and I was not impressed at all. Burgers were too dense and overcooked. Cheese sticks were not fried long enough and were bland and to top it all off, they charged us 35 cents for a 5 oz cup of water. Find me another restaurant in Oxford that charges for tap water! We will not be back.

My apologies for the your bad expierience on our 1st day open. To address your issues, yes the burgers were very over cooked the first 3 days of being open. New staff & new equipment equals trial and error. Cheese stix, new staff & never cooking our menu before 2 days prior to your arrival. 35 cents is the charge for a 16oz cup of water not a 5 oz. You were given a childs 10oz by mistake. The reason for 35 cents is simple, a customer came in yesterday and ordered water, as my staff followed him to his seat with his food, he stopped by and filled up with Dr. Pepper. Yes there are honest and not honest people that everyone eventually pays for. Again my apologies Steve, I will be glad to give you a full refund or a $30 gift certificate. We are here for the long run and intend on serving the Community as best we can. My name is Clint Boutwell and I own Both Tacky Shack’s. Please come by anytime!
