Cursed Location?

9 Jun

While I don’t agree with the idea of a location being cursed, Fat Albert’s (formerly co-located with Little Dooey’s) is now closed. An EatingOxford.com reader stopped by the other day to try the new pizza the restaurant had added to its menu, and the doors were locked and all the furniture had been moved out.

Anyone out there brave enough to be the next one to move in?

The building is set up on a long term lease by Dr. Newcomb, owner of Newk’s. He charges 5500 a month and wanted to raise it to 6000 a month for the 3 Guys owners. There is no way a new restaurant can pay that sort of overhead, once you factor in electricity, food costs, and labor costs. They are set up to fail from the jump. He has so much money and refuses to help restaurants starting out there because they all compete with is restaurants. If you cant pay immediately, he doesnt work with you and kicks you out. This place will contiue to fail until his greedy paws are pried away from it.

Moe’s was the only slightly successful restaurant and I wish it was still there.

Kalo’s Tavern seemed to do well in that location way back when. It lasted for several years. No idea what happened to it.

I was told by a reliable source that the owner of that building also owns the Honest Abe’s/Bop’s building and is planning on putting in a buffet in the old Little Dooey location. Unconfirmed but plausible.

Apparently, the owners did not bother telling the staff they were closing. Everyone showed up to work and found the place shut for good.
