New Restaurant Pays Tribute to Brass Monkey

27 Aug

If you haven’t driven by the former location of Tallulah’s lately, you probably don’t know that a new restaurant called The Monkey’s Back opened in the location at 2028 University Avenue on Thursday.

According to an employee at The Monkey’s Back, the name of the restaurant, as well as many of the menu items, are meant to pay tribute to the former Brass Monkey, which was lost to a fire in September 2010 along with The Lanes bowling alley. Turns out that James Duncan, the owner of the new restaurant, was a regular customer at Brass Monkey and wanted to bring back some of what he’s been missing since the restaurant’s untimely demise.

Menu items at The Monkey’s Back include burgers; sandwiches; po-boys; chicken, shrimp and oyster baskets; homemade banana pudding; macaroni and cheese; and plate lunches such as chicken spaghetti; lasagna; catfish; grilled pork chops and more.

Hours are Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more info call 662-281-3956.
