Yocona Cravings Keeping You Up at Night?

15 May

There’s some exciting news for fans of Yocona River Inn/Yocona in Exile. While the restaurants may be closed, former owner Paige Osborn has been recruited for a new gig as executive chef/general manager at Doc’s Table at 14 S. Main Street in Water Valley, MS. You can find her serving up favorites such as steaks, catfish, and yes, even her infamous bread and butter.

Owned by two Oxford-based podiatrists, Craig Williams and Michael Whitmore, Doc’s Table opened at the end of last year. When the new restaurant began to struggle in April, the owners called in Paige to help them turn things around.

Check out the menus (there are three) and note the serving times for each; Doc’s offers different menus on different days and at different times. For more information, call the restaurant at 662-473-0279.

UPDATE 8/21/12: Doc’s Table has closed.

Ate lunch there on Friday. Meat and three with tea for $9. Had excellent chicken fried steak with milk gravy. Huge portions. As good as Ajax, in my opinion, and no wait.

I have been there for lunch the last 2 weekends. CLOSED….however there is a sign up that states lunch 11-2 and the facebook page says the same.. The first weekend was met at the door by the new manager said you are our first customers today come back at 5 and locked the door! Spoke with her by phone and she assured me would be open today and would gladly give us a 20% discount for our troubles. Went back today locked up again. The cost of gas is to high to go there and no one be there, nor should you have to call and see if they are open. When Paige was there the food was delicious! Wish she were back there. Guess for now I will not be going back to the establishment.

Doc’s Table closed about a month ago. They may be preparing for closure on the occasions you went to visit.

The restaurant was not struggling, it was actually on an upstroke and was gaining a regular local clientele. The food was priced reasonable and locals could come in and enjoy on a daily basis. After the management changed so did the menu and prices. We went there every week and paid a good price for good food. We would like to see prices and food for the everyday working man come back soon.

Just found out they do not allow you to bring your own wine so we are going to try Olivia’s at Plein Aire tonight instead since you can take your own wine there.

I’ve got an article coming out about it in next Wednesday’s Eating Well section of the Eagle. I’m so excited for Paige!

I am also, but hope that we can carry our own wine to the restaurant in Water Valley. Does anyone know if you can carry wine into the restaurant or do they serve wine there?
