New Plate Lunches Around Town

2 Sep

Who doesn’t love a good plate lunch, right? Well, if you’re looking to try something different, several newcomers to the plate lunch scene are cropping up around town…

For several weeks Red House Burgers & Blues has been offering a rotating daily plate lunch special featuring items such as fried chicken, hamburger steak, meatloaf, squash casserole, chicken with rice and more. On Sundays it’s just $6 for a plate lunch and tea. (Bring in your football game ticket stub and receive a free hot fudge brownie with your entree purchase.)

Emileigh’s Bakery has started its fall plate lunch menu as well. This Friday’s plate offering selection includes herb and Parmesan crusted chicken breast; honey cashew green beans; twice-baked potatoes; macaroni and cheese; sauteed squash and red peppers

LBs. Meat Market will begin serving daily plate lunches this Friday. The first offering will be pulled beef brisket, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Check out the updated menu each week here.

And don’t let the name fool ya, Honest Abe’s Donuts is also serving up plate lunches everyday too!

Breaking For Breakfast

5 Apr

Subway, of all places, is debuting a breakfast menu today, helping to reinforce the idea that breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day (not to take away from the day’s other two meals, of course). On the Subway breakfast menu you’ll find egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, whole wheat English muffins, foot longs with as many toppings as you can fit, and more. Prices range from $1.75 to $6 (and no, the photo above is not from Subway).

Now that I’m thinking about it, there are quite a few breakfast options in Oxford now. I remember not too long ago when I’d complain about never having a place to go for eggs, pancakes or smoothies. Check out the list of choices we have now–no excuse for skipping breakfast.

LBs. Meat Market Now Serves Breakfast and Lunch

22 Mar

To help satisfy Oxonians neverending hunger for new food options, LBs. Meat Market across from Kroger on University Avenue started serving breakfast and lunch to its customers at the end of February.

Monday through Friday, breakfast sausage and biscuits compete against equally tempting burritos chock-full of scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese and home fries with a side of High Point Coffee from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Lunch hours begin at 10:00 a.m. and go through 2:00 p.m. during which time items such as hand-formed Black Angus beef burgers are offered up alongside sandwiches stuffed with smoked brisket, smoked sausage, Philly cheesesteak, or pulled pork.

Outside of breakfast and lunch, fresh gulf seafood such as soft shell crabs, tuna steaks and red snapper fillets just arrived and Louisiana Crawfish is coming soon.

UPDATE 5/19/10: LBs. now offers anything on the lunch menu wrapped, or you can design your own wrap from ingredients shown on the menu.

New Meat Market Opening at the End of October

21 Oct

For those out there who crave a nice prime rib or porterhouse every once in a while, October 31st is slated for the grand opening of LBs Meat Market, a new butcher shop in the shopping center across University Avenue from Kroger.

A posting on the store’s FaceBook page click here says that they’ll have a menu up soon to announce the shop’s offerings.

Just in time for the holidays!

Looks like LBs will be offering plate lunches when it opens on its new date of November 7. According to the newly updated website at lbs meat market : LBs is a full service meat market that offers cajun cuisine, daily
plate lunches, take-out orders, catering, smoked meats, seafood, and
sausages made in-house. Homemade casseroles and sides will be available
for you to take home, pop in the oven and enjoy. LBs will also
