A Quick Update…

18 Jan

note

OK, I’ve been out of town for a week, and as usual, the food news didn’t stop while I was away. I’m including a list below of the latest happenings to help keep everyone informed. More to come!

  • After 40 years, Larson’s Big Star will soon become CashSaver Cost Plus Food Outlet (the owners will remain the same)
  • Owner Jason Plunk closed his bar, Taylor’s Pub, this past week
  • According to rumors, a Krystal Burger may be opening in the new Exxon station going up on Hwy 6
  • The third location of Lusa Pastry Cafe, located in the Belk shopping center, is scheduled to open on January 22
  • The 10th Annual Empty Bowls Pantry fundraiser is gearing up for February 7 (more details to come).

Taylor’s Pub Closes in Preparation for Move

27 Nov

This past weekend was the last for Taylor’s Pub on the Square. Owner Jason Plunk is moving the business to another location, with plans to open again at the start of the new year.

UPDATE 12/14/11: Looks like Taylor’s will be moving into the old Ferdinand’s location behind The Lyric.

More Crawfish News

The old Captain D’s location on Jackson near Highway 6 is getting a new inhabitant.

Crawfish X-Press is going to set up shop in the building that’s been empty since Captain D’s moved across the street to its new location months ago.

There’s a Crawfish Express in Canton, Mississippi, and I’m wondering if it’s related to the one being open here? Guess we’ll soon see.

Fun fact: Did you know that the U.S. produces 60,000 metric tons of crawfish annually, with 90% coming from Louisiana? And, the largest importer of U.S. crawfish is Sweden–who knew?

UPDATE 04/23/10: Look for Crawfish X-Press to be open on Double Decker weekend. Related to AJ’s On the Lake in Ridgeland (see site here).
